Is baldness hereditary? if yes, then why it's not seen in women?

Some women do lose their hair, or it thins, but baldness runs on the male side of the family, simply because the tendency for it is on the Y chromosome (women are XX, men are XY). It's the same as hemophilia or sickle cell anemia.
